• Administrators often use the term physician or provider or medical staff in a generic fashion when, in fact, there are all manner of providers, and each has differing background practice styles and personal goal sets. One must define the nature and style of the practice and the medical discipline and use a transaction that complements it. Just as a physician that owns a building will need a different approach than one that is renting, a physician specialty that has a number of ancillary services and support staff will be different from one that is focused on primary care. There are lots of potential types of transactions and many different types of practices and over 160 or so defined medical and physician areas of specialization. There are also many types of physician extenders and mid-level providers and specialty areas within each category.
