  • In order to improve the transmission capacity of natural gas pipelines, increasing the diameter and pressure of natural gas pipelines is the development trend of natural gas pipelines, but this increases the possibility of leakage of buried pipelines and brings potential safety hazards. In this paper, a full-scale high-pressure prototype experiment is conducted using a buried pipeline with a diameter of 1219 mm. An orifice plate with a diameter of 3 mm was set at the position being 25 mm from the end of the conveying pipeline to simulate the situation of a hole with a diameter of 3 mm at the pipeline. Under the condition that the pressure in the pipe can reach up to 12 MPa, the concentration variation of natural gas in different soil locations is tested, and the diffusion law of natural gas in the soil under different pipe pressures is obtained. The research results are very valuable for the leakage safety assessment of buried natural gas pipelines.
