  • Machine learning has revolutionized today's world through its plethora of applications. The use of machine learning can be seen in every sector, including health care, security, agriculture, self-driving cars, etc. Because of the popularity and usability of machine learning in today's world, this article attempts an in-depth study to understand the various concepts associated with machine learning and its applicability in internet of things (IoT). The hierarchy of machine learning types and models is explained in detail to make researchers and users understand which kind of machine learning to apply to specific problems and which to avoid in certain scenarios. An attempt has been made to understand and explore its applicability in various fields of research. Also, tools, platforms and languages required for the implementation of machine learning in different research problems have also been explored and presented to assist researchers and users of this technology. This study is believed to assist budding researchers in understanding the concepts related to machine learning and the challenges one may face in its use in the various research areas.
