Beschreibungen/Notizen
American freelance journalist Anne Bauer successfully fought a US State Department decision to revoke her passport, a setback for proponents of McCarthyism who exercised any opportunity to retaliate against individuals who were viewed as Communist sympathizers. Previously classified government documents show what led the State Department to cancel Bauer's passport and what its actions said about freedom of the press in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s. The findings point to significant parallels between Bauer's experience and the experiences of journalists whose travels have been blocked by "no-fly" lists following the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.
