  • Conventional measures of short-circuit current control include shutting down units, disconnection, opening loop, etc. However, short-circuit current is becoming more and more difficult to control, as the load continues to grow and the scale of the grid gradually expands. It is urgent to strengthen the research on new technology of suppressing short-circuit current. And the technology of using fast switch has the advantages of having almost no impact on existing system operation mode, producing no equipment loss, which is of great innovative value, but it has high requirements for the reliable operation of the switch. At present, the equipment is applied at 220 kV level, and there is no engineering application at 500 kV level. This paper proposes a method based on replacing the side switch to a fast switch and disconnecting the intermediate circuit breaker to improve reliability and lay the foundation for the engineering application in the 500 kV power grid. This paper takes Henan 500kV Baihe transformer substation as an example. Firstly, find the branch line with the largest short-circuit current contribution; Secondly, disconnect the middle circuit breaker of the line in advance; Thirdly, replace its side circuit breaker with a quick switch. When the detected current increases rapidly, the fast switch opens, limit the short circuit current. Simulation result shows that the method can limit the short-circuit current of Nanyang transformer substation and Baihe transformer substation in the next few years.
