• The article reports on the experience of preparing, conducting and the results of the distance tour of the All-Russian Students' Academic Competition in Foreign Languages "Prometheus". The event is held at the MOOC platform with the participation of the Institute of Distance Education, South Ural State University. The authors analyze the positive trends in the development of the on-line round of the academic competition, level of communicative competence's formation, and they also characterize the largest group of the participants, namely students of engineering specialties.
