In this study, composite materials consisting of molybdenum (Mo) particles embedded in a cordierite matrix are fabricated, which are capable of rapid heating by microwave irradiation and are intended for automobile application. Measurement of the electric conductivity and the complex permittivity was performed. And the microwave heating behaviors at 2.45GHz were examined. The averaged (measured) material properties were discussed considering the prediction by a mixing law. These parameters were used for microwave heating simulations in a single mode cavity. Comparison was made between the simulation results and the experimental heating curves. It was demonstrated that further improvement of the model is required to explain the heating behaviors in wide range of heating conditions.
