Triangular-shaped single-crystalline Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles were synthesized using 1,3-propanediamine via a hydrothermal process and their magnetorheological (MR) characteristics were examined. Their crystallinity, magnetic property, and morphology were examined by X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometer, and transmission electron microscopy, respectively. The MR properties of triangular-shaped Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles dispersed in silicone oil were investigated using a rotational rheometer under external magnetic field strengths applied. Typical MR behavior of a phase change from liquid-like to solid-like was observed along with significant changes of rheological properties such as shear stress, viscosity, and yield stress.
