We are developing an autonomous mowing robot. GPS is used for identifying the self-location of the robot outdoors. GPS cannot be used when the radio wave for GPNN signals from satellites are shut off by mountains, and buildings. Therefore, we have developed an instrument that measures the position of a robot instead of GPS. The instrument is named the tracking laser rangefinder. We made prototype autonomous mobile mowing robot with the laser rangefinder. We made performance tests on autonomous locomotion using an experimental vehicle, but the tracking accuracy to the target path was insufficient.
