Looking at the development rate of the radio communication systems, one conclusion can be clearly drawn: mobile data traffic is exponentially increasing and researchers do their best to keep up with the demand, while maintaining the power consumption as low as possible. In this context, new fast ways to transfer data are at their birth, like visible-light communication (VLC). Since LEDs are replacing conventional illumination solutions, they also proved to be useful as data transmitters simultaneously. This paper supports this new research field and studies the bandwidth that could be used for VLC by investigating four different kinds of LEDs: white, infrared, red, and green. The chosen types of LEDs play key roles in various applications not only from the comfort category, but from traffic safety also, which are detailed in this document. The dependency between the available bandwidth and the LED's bias current is presented along with the measuring procedure and technological setup details.
