  • In networking it is necessary to make sure the accuracy and reliability of data transmission. So we are using the error control protocols in data link layer. The sliding window algorithms are broadly used in many standard network protocols. It ensures a correct data transfer over unreliable links where packets may be duplicated, lost, or reordered. It uses the time out mechanism for preventing data loss of packets. Its aim to allow the design of efficient communication protocols despite asynchronous and packet losses. But the uncertainty of the network caused lots of difficulties to choose an appropriate timeout value. A small timeout value may break a long-lived flow into some short ones, which will lead to excessively frequent flow setup and teardown phases. The large timeout value may waste the resources or combine two different applications to a long-lived flow. The rapid growth of the traffic, significantly increases the number of flows, and we need to check out the flow termination rapidly in order to achieve lower bottleneck. In this paper we have presented a modified sliding window protocol which uses variable timer mechanism and dynamic buffer to achieve reliable flow-controlled data transfer between a source and a destination. We changed the value of timer according to the condition and dynamic buffer moves around the channel. By using variable timer and dynamic buffer, the data transmission between sender and receiver get effectively.
