  • The article proposes to use the concept of digital twins to address the problem of the archival storage of various types of documents. Even though the provided literature review demonstrates the active use of digital twins primarily in industrial manufacturing and partially in other spheres of economy and society, the use of digital twins in archival storage is still not considered. However, the criticality of the preservation of information and valuable documents in the era of digital transformation increases significantly, as information and digital data have become key production factors in Industry 4.0. The article proves the relevance of using digital twins of document archives. The article identifies the challenges of archival storage, demonstrates the need to improve the efficiency of archival storage by using digital twins. The author formally formulates the task of documents archival storage management with the help of digital twins. Mathematical models for the control of conditions of archival storage, as well as technologies for the control and restoration of documents, are proposed. The necessity of using 3D/4D printing and artificial intelligence technologies is addressed. The assessment of the efficiency of archival preservation using digital twins is performed. The practical application of the suggested approach is reviewed, and the lines of future research are defined.
