  • A novel hybrid linear beam device is proposed in this article based on the discovery of prominent secondary bunching process of spent beam when a high-beam-perveance traveling wave tube (TWT) is simulated in the large-signal code KlyC, as an attempt to expand the homemade klystron simulation package with TWT functionality. The novel devices exploit the unexpected properties that the current modulation of spent beam exiting one-stage TWT will deteriorate rapidly before subsequently bouncing back after a certain drifting length, provided that the RF power extraction in TWT is slightly less saturated. The standing-wave cavity with an output coupler could then be launched at the "beam reaggregated" region at the end of device circuit for power "recycling." The proposed compact hybrid device comprised of traveling-wave section and output resonator could operate at low voltage and high power with potential to be utilized with other existing technology for efficiency enhancement, bandwidth expansion, and multifunction realization, exhibiting great application potential in millimeter-wave and terahertz (THz) regimes, according to the preliminary studies.
