• The availability of ever‐advancing high‐performance computing platforms in embedded and smaller form factors has enabled the exploration of new options in radar navigation. In modern navigation systems, radar‐aiding methods can be divided into three broad categories: terrain aiding, velocity aiding, and relative position tracking methods. This chapter provides a high‐level overview of the purpose of stages in radar signal processing. It provides a concrete example of implementing the waveform design, pulse compression, and navigation algorithm stages. The chapter describes a simple modulation/demodulation procedure for a real‐valued transmit signal and a single element. It considers the application of synthetic aperture radar (SAR)‐based simultaneous localization and mapping navigation algorithms to a modern navigation filter. In order to bring SAR data into a navigation computer, the raw data must first be processed to coherently integrate the data coming from each element.
