  • Abu Rawash Royal necropolis is composed by Mastabas dating to the 4 th Dynasty. This Old Kingdom necropolis lies a hill around eight kilometres north of Giza. This is the location of Redjedef Pyramid (Kheop's son) and mastabas. One of them F48, on t he highest spot of the necropolis, is dated to the 4 th Dynasty which accords well with the associated chapel (decoration dated to the middle of the Dynasty). But more recent artefact as large amount of comingled bones (human and animals) had been associate d to the F 48 Mastabas. Those bones (probably post - antiquity) are probably linked to mastabas pits emptying. Thus comingled humans bones hand been discovered in several layers associated to the southern F 48 burials. A minimum number of 123 (101 adults) ha d been estimated by our anthropological examination. However, 3 adults skeletons were also identified. One old male adult was found fairly completed in the "descenderie". In the south funerary chamber the bones of a old male individual were also found, whi ch are certainly the remains of the tomb owner. And in the northern pit few bones of an adult were found. Those skeletons, especially the elderly adult of the "descenderie" pit provided palaeopathological informations: degenerative joint disease, occupatio nal stess and relevant traumas.
