  • Traditional school geometry often introduces the angle concept to students by having teachers show visual examples on the blackboard. In this article, the authors propose a teaching sequence to teach angle concept in elementary school that breaks away from this "ostensive" method. They hypothesize that the angle concept may emerge from solving real-life physical problems, and that such activities are motivating and meaningful for children. Here, they document a spatial experiment based on a physical situation to lead students not only to use but also to grasp a geometric concept: the angle. The experimental sequence shows how children abstract this concept from a real-life physical situation to connect physical and geometrical knowledge. (Contains 6 figures and 1 table.)
