• This chapter gives a brief summary of volatile rare earth metal compounds, including halides, alkoxides, siloxides, borohydrides, organometallic compounds, and, mainly, diketonates. Volatility data for the following main classes (types) of lanthanide β-diketonates are summarized: (1) homoligand compounds, [Ln(dik)3]x (x≥1), including Ce(dik)4; (2) heteroligand compounds, [Ln(dik)3(Q)n] (also named mixed ligand compounds), with Q neutral donor ligands, including neutral nickel(II) complexes; and (3) tetrakis-β-diketonates, M[Ln(dik)4] (M+ – alkali or organic cation). Examples of volatile homoligand β-ketoiminates and mixed-ligand dialkyldithiocarbamates as well as carboxylates are listed. The factors that regulate the volatility are discussed.
