• The text focuses on the analysis of the relationships between Education, Poverty and Social Inequalities, based on the study of Education institutions created in Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte, for/by the poor and working classes. Among such institutions, the School of Craftsmen Apprenticeship, created in 1909, stands out. aimed at the poor classes. Finally, we will see how workers, organized in societies since the end of the 19th century, move in this scenario, including their actions in the educational field. For this purpose, decree no. 7.566/1909, maps of Natal between the 19th and 20th centuries and articles from the newspaper A Republica will be analysed, among other sources. In conclusion, we observe that the ruling groups wanted to conform the disadvantaged of fortune to an ideal of city and society. But this attempt suffered setbacks on the part of the people, who disobeyed the norms provided for in municipal resolutions, subverted order and discipline at the School and created societies and schools for their children. O texto se volta à análise das relações entre Educação, Pobreza e Desigualdades sociais, a partir do estudo de instituições de Educação criadas em Natal, capital do Rio Grande do Norte, para/pelas classes pobres e trabalhadoras. Entre tais instituições, destaca-se a Escola de Aprendizes Artífices, criada no ano de 1909. Desejamos compreender o impacto dessa instituição na cidade do Natal no início do século XX, bem como compreender a relação dessa Escola com outras instituições educacionais da época, também voltadas às classes pobres. Por fim, veremos como os operários, organizados em sociedades desde o fim do século XIX, se movimentam nesse cenário, incluindo suas ações no campo educacional. Para tanto, serão analisadas, entre outras fontes, o decreto no. 7.566/1909, mapas de Natal entre o século XIX e XX e matérias do jornal A República. Em conclusão, observamos que os grupos dirigentes queriam conformar os desfavorecidos de fortuna a um ideal de cidade e sociedade. Mas esse intento sofreu reveses por parte dos populares, que desobedeciam a normas previstas em resoluções municipais, subvertiam a ordem e disciplina na Escola e criavam sociedades e escolas para seus filhos Palavras chave: Educação, Pobreza, Desigualdades sociais, Instituições escolares, Disciplina.
