  • The present work aims to present a study of the production, circulation and military iconography of coins produced by the Roman colonies Aelia Capitolina and Caesarea Maritima between the first and third centuries CE. It also aims to discuss the dual role of money (propagandistic and economic) in the context of Roman Palestine by analyzing the relationship between the recurrence of certain monetary types and the historical-military context in which they were inserted. In order to do so, we will focus on the performance of the Roman army, either as a diffuser of the imperial discourse transmitted by monetary iconography through the flow of these coins to the whole province, or by the use of its image as a tool for maintaining order, border control and political affirmation.
