• Several state bank trade groups have formed the Community Bankers Action Alliance to seek legislation to level the playing field between banks and credit unions. The coalition may also target insurers, brokerages and the Farm Credit System, since these have a competitive advantage over banks. Bankers have long expressed concern over disparate regulatory treatment of banks compared to other financial institutions, but some feel that this coalition will have little impact on the political environment.
