Imaging showed opacification of the middle ears and mastoid air cells and erosion of the right temporal bone. Presentation of Case A 20-year-old man was transferred to this hospital because of recurrent ear pain, fever, and headache. The patient had been well until 8 months earlier, when pain developed in the right ear; a diagnosis of otitis media was made and antibiotics were administered. During the next 7 months, pain recurred intermittently, despite additional antimicrobial therapy. One month before admission, computed tomography (CT) of the head reportedly revealed opacification of the mastoid air cells bilaterally with erosive and destructive changes, more on the right side than on the left side. Amoxicillin was administered for 3 weeks. Two weeks . . .
