Extract: Dietary intakes of 60 fith-grade students were analyzed and compared with the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs). Only protein and riboflavin were consumed in adequate amounts by most of the children. Wide individual variations above and below the recommended levels were especially noticeable for calcium, iron, thiamin, niacin, vitamin A, and ascorbic acid. Comparisons of various lunch patterns showed that school lunches and noon meals consumed at home were nutritionally superior to bag lunches brought from home. (Author)
