• Production of healthy planting material by micropropagation in vitro under strictly controlled conditions has been initiated at the Fruit and Grape Research Centre, Cacak (Serbia). In order to ensure more intensive spreading of plants obtained by this method, their further propagation from adventitious buds of the root system was performed. Root parts 15 mm long and 2 mm thick were collected and placed horizontally on two different substrata. The procedure was performed identically in two different terms, May 21 and August 5. The control of newly developed plants was carried out 30 days upon the terms and it was established that the majority of plants (85%) was developed out of the rooted cuttings placed on the first substratum (Steckmedium) during the first term (May), whereas the second substratum (1/2 Steckmedium : 1/2 sawdust) gave smaller number of rooted cuttings (27.5%) during the second term (August). Development of the above ground section and the root system in the newly developed plants was also controlled, and the following morphometric parameters were evaluated: height of the above ground section, thickness of plants at the base aand number and length of principle (skeletal) roots. On inspection of the data, the same regularity was identified in respect of all evaluated parameters, i.e. plants developed by root cuttings placed on the first substratum in May displayed superiority.
