This experiment was carried out by using 27 growing crossbred (Friesian x local Egyptian bull calves) of about 200 kg live body weight (L.B.W.) and 8-9 months old to investigate the effect of substituting soybean meal of concentrate feed mixture (CFM) protein by black cumin seed meal at 0, 30 and 60% in the rations. Animals were divided into 3 equal groups of 9 calves each according to their live body weight for performing feeding trials. The three iso- nitrogenous concentrates feed mixtures were formulated containing about 16.0% CP. A uniform diet containing one of the concentrate feed mixture at a level 2% of body weight and rice straw (2 - 3 cm) were individually offered ad-libitum. A digestibility trial was carried out on three representative animals of each group at the end of the feeding trial. Economical study was also carried out on the experimental animals. The results showed that: a) Substitution of 30% (R2) and 60% (R3) soybean meal protein by black cumin seed meal protein showed non- significant improvement of almost nutrients digestibility and nutritive values as total digestible nutrients (TDN). However, nutritive values as digestible crude proteins (DCP) were significantly increased with different substitution rations; b) substitution of 30% or 60% of soybean meal protein by black cumin seed meal protein significantly improved (P less than 0.05) average daily gain and feed conversion in terms of total dry matter intake (DMI; kg kg-1) gain and TDN intake (kg kg-1) pin and c) relative economic efficiency was higher for calves fed R3 ration compared to R2 and control R1 rations. It could be concluded that black cumin seed meal are advisable to be substituted with soybean meal for growing calves to improve their grouch performance and to reduce cost ration formula in practical feeding.
