• This reader is designed to accompany the fifth text in the Orientation in American English series. It is intended to provide advanced practice in reading comprehension as well as concentrated practice in composition techniques and writing. At the same time it supports and reinforces concepts and structures introduced in the text. The reader may be used alone as supplementary material with other programs, both in the classroom and for individualized study. Each of the five lessons in the reader is divided into three parts: Part 1 consists of an illustrated reading selection followed by discussion questions; Part 2 consists of a series of discussion questions from which outlines are developed as the basis for writing compositions; Part 3 consists of a discussion of various composition techniques and word study exercises.
