With B
2O
3 present, the non-uniformity of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) distribution inside BaTiO
3 green tape is reduced. This has been attributed to a chemical reaction between dissociated borate ion and PVA, which forms a gel-type structure in the aqueous BaTiO
3 slurry. Addition of a plasticizer of ethylene glycol (EG) into the aqueous BaTiO
3 slurry minimizes the degree of gelation between B
2O
3 and PVA, but shows no significant change in the distribution of PVA inside the dried BaTiO
3 green tape. Mathematical analysis is completed to describe the PVA distribution in dried BaTiO
3 green tape, and the results show reasonable agreement with experimental observations.
