• La villa delsMunts es una excepcional villa de carácter residencial situada a 12 kmde Tarraco. Los datos arqueológicos testimonian la existencia de una villa agrícola en época augustea; a inicios del s. II se produce una importante reestructuración del edificio con la edificación de una nueva villa, cuya vida se prolonga hasta el último cuarto del s. III, momento en el que ve afectada por un incendio aunque persiste, en parte, hasta momentos avanzados de la Antigüedad Tardía. Las pinturas conservadas en diferentes espacios de la villa se datan en los siglos II y III, si bien el grupo más importante es el correspondiente a los cubículos que se abren al criptopórtico norte, donde se ubica el cubículo de las Estaciones, así denominado por el ciclo iconográfico pintado en el techo. Existe un fuerte contraste entre la decoración del suelo, un simple mortero blanco, las paredes y el techo. Las pinturas parietales presentan una composición muy simple: zócalo con imitaciones de crustae de mármol y zona media con alternancia de paneles anchos lisos y estrechos decorados con motivos vegetales superpuestos. El techo está compartimentado en casetones en relieve, decorados con la representación alegórica de las cuatro Estaciones y con dos Ménades. El pavimento y las pinturas parietales se datan en la primera mitad del s. II y el techo se fecha en época antonina.The villa of «ElsMunts» is an exceptional residential villa which is located 12 kmaway from Tarraco. Archaeological data point to the existence of a farming village in the Augustan period; a significant restructuring of the building (with the construction of a new villa) occurred in the beginning of 2nd century, its life was prolonged until the last quarter of that century, when was affected by a fire. Nevertheless it remained partially up to advanced times of Late Antiquity. The paintings preserved in different areas of the villa are dated in the 2nd and 3rd century, though the most important group is the one regarding to the cubicula that are opened to the north criptoportic, where the cubicle of the Seasons is located, so named because of the iconographic cycle painted on the ceiling. There is a strong contrast between the decoration of the pavement, a simple white mortar, and that of walls and ceiling. The wall-paintings have a very simple composition: dado with imitation marble crustae and main zone with alternation of broad undecorated panels and narrow ones decorated with superposed vegetable motifs. The coffered ceiling is decorated with the allegorical representation of the four Seasons and two Maenads. The pavement and the wall paintings are dated in the first half of the 2nd century whereas the ceiling is dated in Antonine period.
