The article offers absolutely necessary and long missing standardized guidance and orientation for foreign language teachers and learners in primary education. The described competence-oriented minimum standards are based on a nationwide research in German primary schools carried out by the BIG-Kreis in the LEARNING Foundation, as well as on basic standards of the same expert group moderated by H.-E. PIEPHO in 2004.
