Abstract The micro‐distribution of K was determined in corn leaves ( Zea mays L.) using a modified Heinrich miniature probe attachment for an X‐ray emission spectrometer. Concentrations of K were measured in 1 ✕ 5‐mm areas along a transect from the margin to the midrib. Increasing concentrations of K near the midrib were associated with the higher levels of K nutrition, whereas concentration peaks near the leaf margin were associated with the high plant population. Leaf tissue containing < 0.3% K was necrotic.
