Beschreibungen/Notizen
In 1922 the Metropolitan Museum acquired a fine late 16th- to mid-17th-century German tournament book ("Turnierbuch"). Not much is known about the manuscript's earliest history except that it came from the collection of Frédéric Spitzer. At present the manuscript consists of a total of 112 double-sided leaves of paper, including two leaves for a frontispiece and endpaper, and a body of 220 pages. Although often referred to as a tournament book, the Museum's manuscript is actually a compilation of five individual parts, with a total of 126 full-page illustration in watercolor recording tournament and parades held in Nuremberg from the mid-15th to the mid-17th century, accompanied by three additional pages of explanatory texts.
