• The octyltrimethylammonium bromide (8TAB) interacts with rac-1,1′-bi-2-naphthol (BNP) in ethylacetate/acetone solvent mixture to form 1:1 inclusion complex. The crystal structure of the complex (8TAB/BNP) was determined by X-ray diffraction method. The crystal structure revealed that the molecules of the complex are held in their aggregates by Br...O1 3.204(5), Br...Ow 3.241(7), and O2...Ow 2.679(9) Å intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The alkyl chain of the 8TAB molecule is bent and has at least a gauche conformation. The packing structure of the alkyl chains is different from those observed in complexes of monoalkyltrimethylammonium halides with planar aromatic molecules as well as those of 1:1 complexes of long alkyl chain-type monoalkyltrimethylammonium halides with BNP.
