• In the previous issue of the Journal, Stephen Palmer and Vicki Taylor reported the proceedings of the highly successful one day conference held in March on the theme 'Achieving Positive Health in Older Age'. Whilst the conference stimulated much debate it also highlighted the continued omissions in our knowledge of fundamental aspects of everyday living of the elderly. In this short piece the authors expand and develop a theme addressed at the March conference, namely the nutritional status of the elderly, and explore the potential for a nutritional anthropology of the elderly living in a range of settings.
