  • The precise measurement system for geometry of large workpieces during open die forging was developed and integrated in an industrial environment. However, its use was found to be infrequent and the forge operators still preferred manual geometry measurement by the forge assistant. The measurement system had to be automated to reduce the need for the operator’s control and become more collaborative. Available information about temperature change and geometry measurements are with methods of artificial intelligence used to predict when the operator will require new geometry measurements and autonomously initiate them. The measurement system automation relies on the concept of machine learning as a service to ensure its continuous improvement.
