  • [Display omitted] •Demonstrate the microwave synthesis of Schiff base metal complexes under multiple conditions.•Encapsulates the recent work on synthesis of Schiff metal complexes under microwave irradiation.•Comparison of the synthesis carried under conventional protocol with the microwave method.•An Organized platform pertaining to microwave irradiation conditions/specifications for different Schiff base chelates. Schiff bases, a flexible family of compounds because of its ability to coordinate with metal ions, have attracted researchers since their inception to explore their potential in diverse fields. Till date, microwave irradiation is considered to be one of the robust and efficient techniques for the synthesis of Schiff base metal complexes. This is evident from the number of publications reported on this topic. The greatest advantage of this technique is the extraordinary acceleration in reaction rate when compared to conventional mode. This is because it provides homogeneity of the medium which results in shorter reaction times and increased yields. The protocol also aims to fulfill the no-waste or less waste principle of green chemistry. The review encapsulates the recent work on synthesis of Schiff metal complexes under microwave irradiation. The mentioned literature would provide an organized platform pertaining to microwave irradiation conditions/specifications for different Schiff base chelates.
