This work focuses on the analysis of the photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO:F:Mo thin films for the degradation of a cationic (Methylene blue - MB) and an anionic dye (Methyl orange - MO).The dye decomposition efficiency is only 67% and 42% for MB and MO, respectively for undoped ZnO after 60 min of treatment. However, the corresponding efficiency increases to80% and 56% when F is added with ZnO and increases further substantially to 97% and 70% when both F and Mo are added as co-dopants. The reasons for this considerable enhancement in efficiency have been addressed with the support of optical and pH studies. The role of the point of zero charge (PZC) on the photodegradation of MO and MB dyes has also been studied and reported.
