After the excellent technical summaries we have just heard, I feel that my role is more like that of a high school valedictorian, wishing us all “great success with our future endeavors” in exploring the physics of ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions. It is perhaps most useful for me to stand back and review briefly what we hope to achieve by studying such collisions, and to describe more generally where the gathering movement we see towards building a heavy-ion collider is heading.
