• It is shown that every nonlinear centralizer from L p to L q is trivial unless q = p . This means that if q ≠ p , the only exact sequence of quasi-Banach L ∞ -modules and homomorphisms 0 → L q → Z → L p → 0 is the trivial one where Z = L q ⊕ L p . From this it follows that the space of centralizers on L p is essentially independent on p ∈ ( 0 , ∞ ) , which confirms a conjecture by Kalton.
