It is hardly surprising that art institutions themselves face a cartographic challenge: the challenge to describe and manifest the programs that will count, the institutional territories where young artists can realize their unruly ambitions. Here, Brown elaborates the nature of counting in art and discipline. Accordingly, what counts as art, is no system of education but, rather, the art system that is, in anachronistic parlance, the decider.
