  • Based on English literature and Western theories on the construction and strengthening of nationalism, national (ethnic, religious) symbols of the Uzbek people are considered. The process of creating and implementing these symbols is analyzed. Old and new symbols of state identity are compared, their similarities and differences are revealed, and their continuity from previous symbols is established. The symbols reflected on the national currency of Uzbekistan are studied in a comparative aspect, their features and images are analyzed. The article also considers and substantiates the reasons for studying national symbols and the expected consequences as a result of rejection of these symbols by representatives of this society. In addition, in the course of historiographic analysis of English-language publications on the contemporary national identity of the Uzbeks, groups of researchers on the subject of analysis were systematized. As a result, it was found that religious and ethnic identity and their symbols play an important role in the daily life of the Uzbek people, rather than national symbols. However, some ethnic or religious symbols were turned into national ones in order to further increase the loyalty of the people to the existing state. The author does not deny the fact that the state has great significant access to the manipulation of symbols, but if there is no correlation with the real life and history of the given people, then the state risks losing confidence, which ultimately leads to an “identity crisis”.
