The article continues presentation of democratic elitism initiated in 3/2020 issue of Studia Socjologiczne. It focuses on two problems: the role of elites in regime change and elite–mass linkage. Regarding the first problem, a concept of elite settlements by Michael Burton and John Higley is of a prime concern. The authors claim elite settlement is the best route to democracy, as all major political forces have a chance to survive political crisis, which stabilizes political environment and facilitates attainment of established democracy. Elite–mass linkage is an issue shared by both, democratic elitism and theory of representative democracy. The article emphasizes personalization of politics and changes in processes of political representation triggered of by a new structural configurations and a twilight of a party democracy model, which may lead to “audience democracy” and/or “leader democracy”. Conclusion is that to a large extent democratic elitism has been incorporated into theory of representative democracy.
