• The folklore tradition is closely connected with the Bulgarian political, social and cultural development. The different criteria of ethnic determination and sentiments has been memorized in a specific artistic expression in the folksongs. The article concerns the problem of the Bulgarian selfnames, used in the folklore during the period of Bulgarian national Revival (18th-19th c). It is based on the statistics of different ways of ethnic expression in 2010 songs from the whole Bulgarian territory. An attempt has been made to show and explain the content of the categories — expressions of Bulgarian ethnical feeling in the songs, and also the relation between regional, local and national Bulgarian specific consciousness. The historical development of the ethnic consciousness in the article has been discussed in comparison to the similar processes and facts from the period of 15th-18th c, and to their continuation from the end of 18th to the end of the 40s of 19th c. The author's view is that the transition to the higher national level of ethnic consciousness has been expressed in the songs with a specific so-called "local-ethnic" form of consciousness, which can be found in a few examples from the traditional Bulgarian territory.
