Bitlis in which primity pottery has been carried for long a time esspecially in Kavakbaşı bounded Mutki town and in Günkırı bounded Güroymak town, is a rich city in terms of handicraft. Although the pottery has been made nearly in all houses in previous years, this number has been decreasing day by day. While the pottery production is caried out by small number of women in Kavakbaşı, in Günkırı there is just one, pottery master. But even he is the only master in there he makes it only by special order. The pots are shaped by a pritimity tool called ‘’çark’’ rolling with hands or foots. These pots are cooked in a low heat oven made in a hole on the ground after the pots are dried 4-5 days under the shadow and 1-2 days under the sun. Heating them apply an undercoat exhibit potters is heated in first at fresh air then they are heated for second time with an undercoat in a close hole. Finally they are ready for selling. In the past people used to make their pots according to their needs, today after being widespread of technology and plastic staff, most of the pots and pans lost their functions. In this work, it is aimed to study about the present status of primity pottery which has been made for a long time in Kavakbaşı and Günkırı. In accordance with this purpose, interview and observational research has been accomplished in Kavakbaşı and Günkırı municipalities. Supported with photographs amd informations from the sources, the work has been accomplished.
