• Various and sometimes complex meanings have been attributed to labyrinthic spaces. There are different types of labyrinths, each of them a metaphor for different kinds of structures and experiences. Moreover, whatever is characterized as a labyrinth, can be regarded from different perspectives, as they are connected with the names of Minotaurus, Daedalus, and Theseus. The study analyses metaphorical interrelations between texts and labyrinths focussing on several examples of complex (‘labyrinthical’) textual structures: Jorge Luis Borges’ “El Jardín de senderos que se bifurcan”, Michael Ende’s Die unendliche Geschichte, and Mark Z. Danielewski’s House of Leaves. As these examples illustrate, the authors explore – by different means – the book’s proper space as a labyrinth inviting the reader to follow its paths.
