• In this study, the terms and signs used in the notation of the rim-blown kaval are discussed. These signs and terms used in the instrument notation are of great importance for the performer to correctly interpret the melody in accordance with the required tone and style. These are indispensable elements in terms of preserving the characteristic features of the rimblown kaval and reflecting the correct performance of the rich local tones in our country. During the research process, literature review is made on the use of terms and signs in music terminology in other wind instruments. The current terms and signs used for wind instruments in notation are inadequate in the expression of some technical implementations used in the rimblown kaval. Therefore, it is essential to add new terms and signs for performing the notation. In this direction, the findings obtained by the comparison method, taking the expert opinions, are analyzed and the implementation methods of terms and signs in instrument performance are explained as well as suggestions are presented.
